The value of education, training and knowledge in offsetting poverty.
General Objectives: To value lifetime education and training as factors which prevent and mitigate poverty. Specific: To value formal education as a factor in personal progress and promotion. To understand that education and training provide knowledge and skills which increase opportunities for social integration and access to the world of work. To recognise that poverty has an effect on material, social and emotional conditions, and makes it difficult to believe that education is a priority for life. To link the existence of pockets of poverty with lack of schooling. Contents - Knowledge Conceptual (declarative): Formal education On-going training Procedural: Relating education and training with increased life and professional opportunities. Analysis of situations in which training is required in order to access the world of work. Location on maps or charts of pockets of poverty, and the relationship of these with levels of illiteracy. Analysis of a case in which extreme poverty relegates formal education from its priority position. Attitude: To value lifetime education and training as elements in personal progress and as factors which prevent and mitigate poverty. Prior knowledge: Not needed.
