The multi-dimensional nature of poverty. Qualitative and quantitative factors.

Orientazio didaktikoa:

General Objectives: To understand that poverty is a a phenomenon involving multiple dimensions which are related to a range of qualitative and quantitative contextual factors. Specific: To recognise the concept of poverty, and its connection to specific social contexts. Identifying related quantitative and qualitative factors. To recognise the connections between poverty and violence. To find out some basic data about poverty: distribution around the world, how it affects Spain. Contents - Knowledge Conceptual (declarative): The concept of poverty from a multi-dimensional perspective. Absolute and relative poverty Quantitative dimensions of poverty: lack of economic resources, poverty threshold. Qualitative dimensions of poverty: difficulty in finding work, few and difficult social relationships, personal effects (low self-esteem, fatalistic feelings), difficulties in accessing goods and services which constitute social rights (housing, education, training…). Procedural: Observation and analysis of factors which impact on situations of poverty. The relationship between poverty and violence: poverty as a product of structural violence resulting from social injustice and as a cause of conflicts. Analysis of basic data about poverty: worldwide distribution, information relative to Spain (number, sex, the rural/urban divide, training) Attitude: Appreciation of poverty as a multi-dimensional phenomenon with wide-ranging social and personal variations. Sensitivity to this issue. Prior knowledge: Not needed. Access the learning guide for the object.
