About this resource...
This Sequence presents the world as the stage or home for everybody, which we have to understand and care for. We study the earth and continents, but not the individual countries, as this underlines and clearly communicates that the earth is home to everybody.
General Objectives: To listen to and understand a range of conversations in standard language using the information in these conversations to carry our a range of diverse specific tasks related to their experience. Expressing tastes, wishes, opinions, feelings and simple information related to a topic. To value reading as a source of entertainment and information. To understand and work on the socio-cultural dimension. Specific: To ask for and give information about a globe showing the land and sea, with continents, oceans, hemispheres, countries, climates, maps, etc. To apply this knowledge in a range of situations and activities. To work on a physical map. To use certain strategies to learn to learn. To review knowledge of the earth and how it is represented: globe showing the land and sea, map of continents, major geographic accidents. To value the importance of understanding and appreciating people from other countries and cultures. Respect and tolerance for these cultures and for the pupil's own culture. Contents ? Conceptual Knowledge (declarative): To work with basic aspects of the physical geography of the earth, location, contents, oceans, hemispheres, climate, etc. Vocabulary: CONTINENTS: AFRICA, ANTARCTICA, ASIA, OCEANIA, EUROPE and AMERICA. Land, soil, island, peninsula, country, landscape, wood (forest), lake, coast, beach , canal, desert, capital, state, region, village, hut, globe, sphere, pole, tropic, zone, hemisphere, northern, southern, eastern, western, covered, imaginary. Freeze, turn, warm, hot, cold, near, far, up, down, Procedural: Understanding specific information in messages. Identifying continents, oceans, climates, etc. Matching words and images. Writing and spelling correctly. Completing dialogues Ordering sequences Locating continents, oceans, climates, etc on the map following appropriate directions. Attitude: Receptive and respectful attitude to people who speak a different language. Appreciating correct understanding and production of simple texts. A positive and optimistic attitude to learning a foreign language. Recognising and evaluating the importance of knowing how to read and write a foreign language. Prior knowledge: Knowledge of English from the Second Stage of Primary education. Basic vocabulary relating to physical geography in the mother tongue: The earth, the globe showing the land and sea.
