We will find out about the importance of Clara Campoamor, and the arguments which arose during the Second Republic.

Teaching orientation:

General Objectives: To identify and understand the ideological principles and measures introduced in Spain during the Second Republic relating to equality for men and women. To find out about and analyse the contribution of Clara Campoamor in achieving votes for women. Specific: To understand the arguments about the granting of votes to women in parliament during the Second Republic. To research and describe the arguments of Clara Campoamor and Victoria Kent about giving women full rights as citizens, identifying the main differences between the positions of the two. To evaluate the message of Clara Campoamor and her argument that women could only learn to be free by being free. To find out about the changes which took place after the Civil War, and the loss of voting rights during the Franco dictatorship. Contents – Conceptual Knowledge (declarative): The principles introduced in the Second Republic: Legal equality of men and women and voting rights with no discrimination by gender. Some key figures: Clara Campoamor and Victoria Kent. Two opposing positions. Development of votes for women in Spain. The Franco dictatorship. The 1978 Constitution and recovery of voting rights. Procedural: Analysis of two opposing arguments: Victoria Kent and Clara Campoamor. Strategies for understanding historic texts and documents. Guided research on the development of voting rights for women during the Second Republic. Preparation of a literary text (theatre) based on the information received. Attitude: Appreciation and valuation of the actions of Clara Campoamor and her defence of freedom for women. To reject historic situations involving loss of rights and discrimination against women. Prior knowledge: Information search strategies. Working well in cooperative groups to debate and reach agreement. Access the learning guide for the object.
