In this unit we will help the learners to obtain information on the weather by looking at the instruments used for measurement: Barometer, Wind Vane, Anemometer, Thermometer and Rain gauge.
Objectives: General: To express oneself and communicate orally in simple everyday situations using known content which has already been practiced, using verbal and non-verbal procedures and adopting a respectful and cooperative attitude: expressing tastes, desires, opinions, feelings and simple information related to the topic. Specific: To identify the various pieces of equipment used in a weather centre and the values that they measure; to match words and illustrations and expand prior knowledge acquired in the other language. Contents ? Knowledge Conceptual (declarative): BAROMETER: It is an instrument to measure atmospheric pressure. THE THERMOMETER: We measure the temperature by taking the temperature of the air with the thermometer. ANEMOMETER, instrument used to measure wind speed . Also WIND VANE. RAIN GAUGE, is a type of instrument used by meteorologists and hydrologists to gather and measure the amount of liquid precipitation. Procedural: To learn the basic vocabulary for the topic (only the words in upper case; in this case the name of the weather measurement instruments). Giving brief description of these instruments. Attitude: Interest in learning about the weather and climate in English. Recognising and evaluating the importance of knowing how to read and write a foreign language. Listening carefully to pronunciation of all the words. Prior knowledge: Knowledge of English from the second stage. Knowledge previously acquired about the weather and climate in the first language. Vocabulary learnt in previous Learning Objects: 17.01. and .02. View related learning guidance.
