A review of the Suffragette movement.
General Objectives: To understand the contribution of important women and men in achieving votes for women. To analyse the main actions and successes of the Suffragette movement. To appreciate and value the role played by the Suffragettes in achieving equality of rights for men and women. Specific: To identify the characteristics of the historic context in which the suffragette movement developed. To understand the main objectives of the Suffragette movement. To research and describe the specific procedures and actions taken to demand voting rights for women. To compare and identify common aspects and differences between the two Suffragette movements. To encourage the development of critical thinking in pupils which avoids gender-based discrimination and prejudice. Contents Conceptual Knowledge (declarative): The objectives of the Suffragette movement: the right to education and votes for women. Some leading figures: In the USA: Lucrecia Coffin Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. In the UK: Mary Wollstonecraft, John Stuart Mill and Richard Codben Action by the Suffragette movements. The achievements of the Suffragettes: The achievement of voting rights for women in the USA and the UK. Procedural: Analysis and description of the discrimination suffered by women in the second half of the 19th century Strategies for understanding historic documents and texts. Guided research into the main activities of the Suffragette movement. Preparation of a literary text (theatre) based on the information received. Attitude: To appreciate and value the activities of the Suffragettes. To reject historic situations involving discrimination against women. Prior knowledge: Information search strategies. Working well in cooperative groups to debate and reach agreement. Access the learning guide for the object.
