Description:

The concept of slavery and its current forms. The aim is for pupils to understand the concept of slavery and to find out about some of its current forms.

Teaching orientation:

General Objectives: To recognise slavery as a form of dependence of one person on another in which one regards the other as merchandise to exploit for economic gain, and in which one loses their human dignity while the other acts as their owner. To identify some current forms of slavery. Specific: To understand the concept of slavery. To find out about the origin and historic development of slavery. To recognise current forms of slavery: People trafficking, child labour, sexual slavery and servitude for debts. To identify the right to not be a slave as a basic human right To awaken rejection of human relationships based on submission. To encourage socially-responsible attitudes to people subject to forms of slavery or dependency in which their human dignity is affected. Contents ? Knowledge Conceptual (declarative): Slavery Modern slavery Slavery and abolition movements: historic references. People trafficking Child labour as a form of slavery Sexual slavery Servitude for debts Procedural: Analysis of slavery situations. Differentiation between situations of slavery and dignified labour relations. Recognition of some forms of providing services and labour as forms of submission and slavery. Recognition of submissive relations as a form of violence. Attitude: Development of a critical attitude and sensitivity to situations of dependency where respect for human dignity is missing. Rejection of current lifestyles, such as irresponsible consumption, which favour some forms of submission. Prior knowledge: Not necessary. Access the learning guide for the sequence.
