Discovery and understanding of the situation faced by disabled people from the perspective of human rights. The objective is to promote reflection and raise awareness of the situation of the disabled from the human rights perspective.

Teaching orientation:

General Objectives: To discover and understand the situation faced by disabled people from the perspective of human rights. To understand the need to continue to develop equality of opportunity for people with disabilities. Specific: To recognise that people with disabilities have significant difficulties in the exercise of certain human rights. To find out about the invisibility of people with disabilities in some situations and to reflect on the reasons for this. To identify the help requirements of people with disabilities To appreciate the importance of access to places, goods and services as an essential part of personal development. To encourage socially aware and active attitudes towards people with disabilities. Contents - Knowledge Conceptual (declarative): Human rights Accessibility Equal opportunities Procedural: The relationship between accessibility and personal autonomy. The reason why disabled people are often not seen in certain contexts, and the relationship of this to access difficulties. Analysis of the everyday impediments to effective exercise of human rights for people with disabilities. A comparison of access to human rights for people who have and do not have a disability. Recognition of the difficulties of providing some human rights effectively: access to housing, communication and information, mobility on public transport, cultural, recreational and sports activities, etc. Attitude: Appreciation of the human rights of people with disabilities and equality of opportunity in relation to some human rights. Assessment of the importance of accessing the physical, urban, communications, IT, cultural, recreational and sports worlds as determining factors in personal autonomy and, therefore, equal opportunities.
