Description:

Through a virtual scenario, the aim is to make the students familiarise with the measures adopted initially with a casualty or person who gets suddenly ill, in the same place of the events, until specialised assistance can be obtained. It also aims at teaching them to be aware of the fact that to provide first aid no specific equipment or materials are necessary; at the very best, we will have the help of a basic first aid kit. The main objective of providing first aid and following the behaviour of protecting, reporting and assisting (PRA) will consist of avoiding worsening or deteriorating the lesions of the casualty as a consequence of an incorrect action.

Teaching orientation:

TEACHING GOALS: GENERAL: 1. To identify risky situations for the people 2. To know the basic first aid protocols, methods and techniques 3. To allow practising in an e-learning context SPECIFIC 1.To choose the first aid techniques in each case 2.To apply the first aid techniques following the protocols established.3.To apply basic life support techniques in relation to the established action protocols 4.To apply the psychological support and self-control techniques with the casualty and the relatives, identifying the communication strategies. SPECIFIC CONCEPTUAL: 1.To identify action priorities 2.To identify life threatening situations in the casualty or ill person 3.To describe cases and circumstances in which no direct intervention should be provided 4.To specify first aid techniques 5.To identify and describe the protocol to follow 6.To detect psychological needs of the casualty 7.To identify the factors that predispose towards anxiety in the situations of accident, emergency and mourning SPECIFIC PROCEDURAL: 1.To secure the area 2.To put the casualty in the right position 3.To apply the techniques to recover cardiocirculatory, ventilatory balance due to physical, electrical and/or chemical lesions, assisting people with convulsive crises 4.To apply mobilisation and immobilisation methods 5.To apply psychological support techniques 6.To apply techniques for the control of situations of anxiety, mourning, failure in providing aid SPECIFIC ATTITUDINAL: 1.To assess the need of preventing risks during assistance to the casualty using individual protection systems 2.To attach value to the signs of affection towards the casualty 3.To assess protocol application 4.To appreciate the act of accompanying the casualty.
