About this resource...
Strategies for measuring surfaces by dividing whole surfaces into equal parts
Knowledge type: declarative, procedural
prerequisite knowledge: Concept of surface and area, discrimination among equal shapes, counting, concept of measurement.
Learning outcomes: To know and use basic mathematical elements (measurements, numbers, units, symbols) in real or simulated real-life situations, and put into practice the processes of reasoning that lead to problem solving and obtaining information. To aid in the understanding of messages in which sizes are quantified, and inform about real situations where children must interpret them correctly. To measure familiar surfaces using unconventional units of measurement, making use of instruments that are available in each case, as well as establishing the mechanisms in order to do so: unit selection, relationships between units and degree of reliability.
