Description:

In this sequence we will use animals to work with the Present Simple tense, particularly in questions and answers, and in the third person singular. In addition, we will also be working with interrogative pronouns. We will see where and how animals and pets live (and where they come from); we will find out about their habits and what they eat; and we will compare and describe them.

Teaching orientation:

Objectives: To find out about, learn, understand and use accurately vocabulary related to the world of animals; and to use this vocabulary in the Present Simple by describing, comparing and asking questions about animals. Specific: To acquire and use fluently vocabulary related to animals; to learn and use relevant questions; to learn and use fluently the interrogative pronouns to ask relevant questions; to be able to use the Present Simple correctly in affirmative, negative and interrogative statements; to be able to describe and compare animals and their way of life; to show an attitude of respect and care for animals; and to understand the importance of having available the basic linguistic resources required to communicate successfully in such communication contexts or situations. Contents – Knowledge Conceptual (declarative): Animals (see key words) Interrogative pronouns. (See key words) Use of the Present Simple. Procedural: Developing the ability to describe and compare. Developing the ability to ask relevant questions in English. To learn to write this vocabulary correctly. Using the vocabulary in communicative situations. Attitude: To show an attitude of respect and care to animals. To value the importance of having some minimum resources which can be applied successfully in such communicative contexts or situations. Prior knowledge: Knowledge of English from the second stage. Before beginning work on this learning sequence, it would be a good idea to introduce the pupils to: The use of the present simple, Interrogative pronouns, The concepts of description and comparison and Countries and nationalities.
