The struggle to achieve voting rights for women, from the French revolution, with Olimpia de Gouges, through the Suffragette movement. We will find out about important women in the struggle for voting rights, which is one of the cornerstones of our democracy.
General Objectives: To find out about the main movements demanding the vote for women. To find out about the contributions of important women and men in achieving voting rights for women. To analyse the differences in achieving voting rights for men and women. Specific: To identify and understand situations in which equality of rights between men and women is affected, identifying sexist and discriminatory attitudes. To analyse specific procedures and courses of action for situations involving sexual discrimination. To present and interpret information from different sources in a clear and ordered way. To use a range of procedures to research and describe differences in the development of voting rights for men and women at different times in history. To recognise and value the most important contributions to achieving equality of rights and duties for men and women. To value the contribution of women to achieving voting rights and participation in society. Contents Conceptual Knowledge (declarative): The rights of men and women throughout history. Social movements demanding rights for women. Important women in the history of female suffrage. Voting rights and participation in social questions for women. Procedural: Analysis of the discrimination women have faced over voting rights. Strategies for understanding oral and written texts and a range of documentation. Research and finding information about the contributions made by women to achieving voting rights Strategies for understanding literary texts. The creation of literary texts using various forms of expression. Attitude: Appreciation and evaluation of the social movements which have demanded equality between men and women Valuation of the specific contributions made by women at different times in history. Rejection of any type of sexual discrimination which affects equal rights for women and men. Prior knowledge: Good level of reading for understanding and strategies for understanding texts.
