This teaching sequence intends to teach students the philosophy behind the operation of local networks, the types of users and the assignment of privileges according to the group to which they belong, and providing access to shared resources. Resource and user management for Windows and Linux operating systems are considered.

Learning outcomes: General outcomes: To describe the components that are involved in assigning shared resources on a local network. To apply appropriate procedures for sharing and accessing resources on a local network. Specific outcomes: To work with the Windows and Linux operating systems to create users, assign each user to system user groups and associate them with their privileges. To describe the process to follow to share a folder over a local area network in Linux and Windows and assign the appropriate permissions according to the use we wish to make of them. To know and understand the procedures for modifying user and group access permissions to a folder and linking them to their privileges. To use the Windows and Linux operating systems to create shortcuts to network drives. To apply the procedure that must be followed to share a printer over a local network, using Windows and Linux operating systems. To assign access permissions to the users. To solve problems related to assigning access privileges for network resources.
