Introduces the construction of a thermometer and provides a basis for the existence of different units and scales for measuring temperature.
Knowledge type: declarative, procedural
prerequisite knowledge: The intuitive concept of temperature as a sensation of heat exchange between two bodies. Physical changes in matter related to temperature: dilation, fusion, boiling. Approximate temperature of the human body. Ordering of whole numbers.
Learning outcomes: To identify different thermometers for everyday use and the thermometric scales most commonly used internationally.
