Capital and capitol sound alike, but their meanings are different. Capital may be used as a noun or an adjective. As a noun, it may mean the city which is the center of government for a country, state, or province. It may also mean wealth as money or other property. As an adjective it means excellent or important. Capitol is noun that means a government building where a state legislature or the U.S. Congress meets. Choose capital or capitol to complete each sentence in this printable worksheet. You may find it helpful for Common Core Standards for Language for 4th grade, although it may also be useful for other students.
