Cadence-lypso (Cadence and Calypso) is a cultural music of Dominica, popularized by the group Exile One in the 70's. This Dominican label of Cadence music spreaded throughout France and was popular in the French departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe. The legendary group Exile One first coined the name cadence-lypso. Other important groups of the era include Les Aiglons, Grammacks, Experience 7, Midnight Groovers, and Liquid Ice. Cadence-lypso is a precursor to the worldwide phenomenon of zouk as popularized by Kassav during the 1980's. Cadence-lypso emerged as a new musical form and revolutionized the kwéyòl music, that is, the music of the kwéyòlpal (creole-speaking) countries of the Caribbean.
