The Philippine Army (PA), (Filipino official name Hukbong Katihan ng Pilipinas), is the main branch of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) responsible for ground warfare. Commanding-General, then Major General, now Lieutenant General Hernando Delfin Carmelo A Iriberri of the Philippine Military Academy "Matikas" Class of 1983, assumed office on 7 February 2014, replacing now retired Lieutenant General Noel A. Coballes of the PMA Class 1980.
