Lev Tolstoy (Russian: Лев Толсто́й) is a rural locality (a settlement) and the administrative center of Lev-Tolstovsky District of Lipetsk Oblast, Russia. Population: 8,650 (2010 Census); 9,035 (2002 Census); 9,139 (1989 Census).The settlement was founded in 1890 as Astapovo (Аста́пово) railway station on the intersection of the Kozlov–Volovo and Moscow–Yelets routes. Leo Tolstoy fell ill at Astapovo station and died here in 1910. In 1918 (1920 according to other sources), the station was given its present name.
