International Literacy Day is coming up on September 8. This year's theme is "Literacy in a Digital World" with the overall aim to look at what kind of literacy skills people need to navigate increasingly digitally-mediated societies, and to explore effective literacy policies and programs that can leverage the opportunities that the digital world provides. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress Reading Test, over 60% of middle and high school students recently scored below "proficient" in overall reading achievements. So what can be done to improve literacy rates in the U.S.?
