Riverhead Books is a division of Penguin Group (USA). It was founded in the fall of 1993 by Susan Petersen Kennedy with the goal of publishing exciting new voices, stories and ideas, and to publish books that have a lasting influence on American culture.[citation needed]Writers published by Riverhead include Khaled Hosseini, Nick Hornby, Anne Lamott, Sarah Vowell, Daniel H. Pink, Chang-rae Lee, Meg Wolitzer, George Saunders, Junot Díaz, Steven Johnson, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dinaw Mengestu, Jon Ronson, Daniel Alarcón, and James McBride. A Riverhead author has won the prestigious Dayton Literary Peace Prize four out of the six years that the prize has been in existence. Four authors have won MacArthur “Genius” grants while many writers Riverhead has published have given extraordinarily popular TED Talks. Riverhead authors have won numerous PEN awards as well as countless other prestigious literary awards, including the Hurston/Wright Award for writers of African descent, the Stonewall Award for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender fiction, and the National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35 for the best young emerging voices. Four authors were included in the New Yorker’s recent “20 under 40” list of young fiction writers. The current Publisher of Riverhead is Geoffrey Kloske. According to the Penguin Group (USA) website, Becky Saletan is Editorial Director, Sarah McGrath and Jake Morrissey are Executive Editors, and Megan Lynch in Senior Editor of Riverhead Books.
