How to Talk to Girls at Parties

Wikipedia articleDbpedia source
"How To Talk To Girls At Parties" is a science fiction short story written in 2006 by Neil Gaiman. It is about a couple of British 1970s teen-aged boys, Enn and Vic, who go to a party to meet girls, only to find that the girls are very different from the boys' expectations. The story follows Enn, a shy boy whom the more confident Vic encourages to just talk to girls. While at the party, Enn talks to three very nice but strange girls. As he focuses on "making a move" on the girls, it is revealed to the reader the exchange students there are more interplanetary than foreign. It is also very humorous."How To Talk To Girls At Parties" was nominated for the 2007 Hugo award for Best Short Story and won the Locus Award for Best Short Story. In 2009 it was the inspiration for a limited edition poster with art by Camilla d'Errico. This poster was sold through Gaiman's merchandizing site Neverwear. The poster had a limited run of 1200 numbered copies, and 10% of the proceeds were donated to the CBLDF, a favourite charity of Gaiman's.
