The importance of knowing how to delay satisfactions as a way of controlling impulsiveness.
General Objectives: Encourage reflection on the negative consequences for oneself and others who act impulsively. Assess the need to delay satisfactions as a way of achieving medium and long term objectives. Specific: Recognise impulsive behaviour. Relate impulsive behaviour with the lack of planning and objectives. Identify behaviour born out of impatience. Recognise negative consequences of impulsive behaviour. Ascertain the negative effects of the inability to delay satisfactions. Contents Conceptual Knowledge (declarative): Impulsive behaviour Delaying of procedural satisfactions: Relationship between delaying satisfactions and long-term personal improvement. Association of impulsive behaviour with negative medium or long term consequences: inability to tolerate frustration, difficulty for social relations. Recognition of the short term benefits of impulsive behaviour: pleasure, immediate satisfaction, relief of tension. Identification of the negative effects for the person themselves of impulsive behaviour: regret, guilt, punishment. Recognition of impulsive behaviour: interrupting, not listening to complete instructions, taking objects off others without control (kleptomania)? Attitude: Interest in delaying satisfactions and controlling the immediate craving for action. Assessment of the control of the impulses as a factor to aid personal improvement. Prior knowledge: They are not necessary. Access the learning guide for the object.
