Ding Huan
DbpediaThing
Wikipedia articleDbpedia source
Ding Huan (丁緩) was a Chinese engineer, inventor, and craftsman who lived in the first century BC during the Han dynasty. Ding Huan is the inventor of the zoetrope. His zoetrope was an optical device that created the impression of motion from the rapid movement of static images. A circular canopy painted with images of birds and animals was placed over a lamp. The rising convection currents of the lamp rotated the vanes on the top of the canopy. Once the canopy spun at a fast enough speed, the pictures on the canopy would appear to be moving.
