The power to control one's own life and democratic participation help to avoid large pockets of poverty developing (the power of the vote)

Orientación didáctica:

General Objectives: To understand that democratic participation encourages social control of the community's resources and is therefore an important element in the fight against poverty Specific: To recognise that democratic regimes include respect for human rights in their legal structures. To recognise that individuals have to take responsibility for improving their lives. To understand that participation encourages social pressure in relation to social protection measures and social justice. To find out about some forms of participation in a democracy. To appreciate the existence of poverty as a symptom of the need to improve our democratic system. Contents - Knowledge Conceptual (declarative): Democracy. Democratic values. public participation. Procedural: Recognition of human rights in the text of the Spanish constitution. The relationship between democratic participation and social protection and justice measures: mostly economic and social. To identify some measures which promote social justice: unemployment protection, measures to promote employment, education, access to new technology for all, health, access to decent housing… The link between control and taking responsibility for one's own life and the possibility of preventing and mitigating personal poverty. Identifying forms of participation in democracies: associations, volunteering, voting as a form of control and power. Attitude: To appreciate poverty as a symptom of a need to improve the democratic system. Valuing participation as a way of promoting social justice. Appreciating democracy as a system which recognises human rights and promotes activities which support them. Prior knowledge: Not necessary. Access the learning guide for the object.
