Descripción:

Through a virtual scenario, the aim is to make the students familiarise themselves with one tumour treatment: Teletherapy by electron accelerator. Besides, another goal is to make them able to know and apply the protocols established to perform this treatment.

Orientación didáctica:

TEACHING GOALS: GENERAL: 1. To relate the teletherapy by electron accelerators treatment to its applications, characteristics of the equipment and of the energy used and technical protocol of performance and security and radioprotection measures. 2. To identify the irradiation fields, kinds of energy and radiation dose that have to be applied, accessories to be installed in the equipment, patient immobilisation and protection devices according to the data on the treatment sheet. 3. To place the patient in the position established in the simulation process in order to guarantee the exact reproduction of the treatment established with strict accuracy. 4. To regulate the systems aimed at beam centering, control of dose and irradiation times of teletherapy equipment, according to the specifications on the treatment sheet with strictness and accuracy. 5. To identify types, characteristics, applications and preventive security measures of the equipment and materials of the workshop where personalised protections and elements are manufactured. 6. To make personalised protections and elements from the patterns or moulds according to the specific procedures of the unit. 7. To check the suitability and exactness of the personalised protections and elements by visualising them on the simulation equipment. SPECIFIC CONCEPTUAL: 1. To know the electron accelerators. 2. To know the irradiation techniques. 3 To know the use of moulds: types, uses and effects. 4. To know the mould workshops: machines and tools used to make them (operation and basic maintenance), mould manufacturing techniques (manual and automated) and security measures in the workshops. 5. To know the patient support treatments in teletherapy. 6. To know the bases of teletherapy dosimetry. 7. To know the simulation protocols: X-rays and/or CT scan and critical organs. 8. To know the protocols established to perform the treatment: process, quality and environmental security conditions. SPECIFIC PROCEDURAL: 1. To perform X-ray and/or CT scan. 2. To delimit critical organs. 3. To perform clinical dosimetry. 4. To prepare the equipment for the treatment. 5. To place and centre the patient. 6. To adjust the equipment working parameters. 7. To apply the treatment. 8. To analyse the treatment. 9 To create the field structure elements. 10. To make immobilisation devices. 11. To control security in the teletherapy facilities. SPECIFIC ATTITUDINAL: Of attitudinal nature: 1. To take an interest in knowing the instruments. 2. To optimise the work, to be efficient in the preparation of the facilities, the equipment and materials as well as in carrying out/collaborating with the techniques following the procedures established and the radioprotection rules. 3. To become aware of the importance of following the guidelines that guarantee the quality of the procedure: work order, hygiene and method. 4.To be persevering in quality monitoring: safety standards. 5. To take responsibility for correcting the mistakes and reporting them. 6. To be able to solve problems during the process. 7. To show responsibility within the sphere of professional skills. 8 To show confidence in the professional practice.
