Through a virtual scenario, the aim is to make the students familiarise with a technique which allows them to perform the hormones, drugs, antibodies and antigens assays: Radio-immunoassay (RIA) technique. The simulator helps to enable them to know and apply the protocols established in the performance of this technique.
TEACHING GOALS: GENERAL: 1. To perform immunometric analytical determinations through radio-immunoassay techniques with the required degree of accuracy, with order and precision according to the procedures established and safety and hygiene standards and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices). 2. To know the characteristics and conditions of the samples, reagents and necessary equipment to perform RIA technique. 3. To assess the accuracy and precision of the technique from the results obtained from control samples. 4. To perform the management and recording of the data obtained with the technique depending on the procedures established. SPECIFIC CONCEPTUAL: 1. To know the radio-immunoassay techniques and their characteristics. competitive RIA, isotopes for radioactive marking (beta (-) and gamma radioactivity), RIA separation systems (precipitation chromatography, immunoadsorbent systems), calculations in RIA (Scatchard and Odel’s graphs), immunoradiometric assays (IRMA), equipment to measure radioactivity (ventilation counters), current applications in RIA 2. To know the protocols established to perform the techniques: process, quality and environmental security conditions. SPECIFIC PROCEDURAL: 1. To plan the technique 2. To prepare the equipment, samples, reagents, standards and controls 3. To perform the technique 4. To record the results 5. To perform the controls of the analytical process 6. To perform the quality controls. 7. To clean and put away the equipment and the material. 8. To process the waste generated when performing the technique. SPECIFIC ATTITUDINAL:1. To take an interest in knowing the technique 2. To show responsibility when handling the equipment, samples and reagents. 3. To optimise the work: to be efficient and independent when preparing the equipment as well as when performing the techniques following the procedures established and the environmental quality and security conditions. 4. To become aware of the importance of following guidelines that guarantee the quality of the procedure: work order, hygiene and method. 5.To be persevering in quality monitoring: safety standards. 6. To take responsibility for correcting the mistakes. 7. To be able to solve problems during the process. 8. To show responsibility within the sphere of professional skills. 9 To show confidence in the professional practice.
